First I will talk about the starting with Windows part, and then the "Automatically start previously running port forwarding operations" part.
First, the starting with Windows is based on the fact that the program can be selected to be installed as a Windows Service during the program installation. Depending on your exact version, the service may not be created with the "Auto-Start" function enabled. If this is the case, you will need to go to the Windows Services Manager located at Start->Settings->Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services, and then find the NetworkActiv AUTAPF Service, right click on it and choose Properties, and then change the setting in the "Startup type" drop-down box under the first tab. Note that if you have moved the executable's installed location, you may need to re-install so that the Services Manager knows where the program is located.
Now, to get to the feature that enables you to have the program automatically start previously running port forwarding operations; This feature works just fine as long as TCP/IP is already enabled on your system at the time the service is run (if started that way). If, however, you have some port forwarding operations that are listening on a local address that is not yet available, such as a dial-up modem or other connection that takes time, the port forwarding operations might not be able to start when the program is first run. An alternative method would be to put a shortcut to the program in your Start menu's Startup folder. This of course would only start after you logged in to Windows.
It happens occasionally that due to the way the program was used, it did not save the settings and so when you re-start it, it does not remember the settings, such as the setting for that feature which was just discussed. To put it simply: Always close the program via the File->Exit or by clicking the X, (or by right-clicking on the task-bar... and so on) after making any changes to the settings. The program settings are only saved when you exit the program... not when the program is closed by Windows during shut-down or when the power goes out and you haven't any UPS installed.
For those who are interested, the settings are saved in the file named with the extension '.NAS' and located in the same folder as the program's executable file. The settings file will have the same stem name as the executable file.

Just an update to this information: The problems associated with the saving of the settings (and port-forwarding-operations) should be fixed in version 1.0.7 and later. You can download this version from the usual download location. Important note: The newly available, Unicode version can not load the old settings file and so if you download (and install) the Unicode version, your old settings will be lost. This does not apply to the filter options though, as those are stored in the NAFP file. |
