I use https://www.dyndns.com/account/services/hosts/ for getting free subdomains. Be sure to enable wildcards on them so that NAWS recives the subdomain data.
I want a powered by NAWS logo...

| I am new to making and hosting websites. I have read the NAWS faq. My domain is free and comes from dynDNS. The web server is running NAWS 3.5.16. When entering the ip address to the DynDNS domain I get the " ip is invalid" message. I have tried enabling the wildcard tab. There is a semicolon and 4 digits after the web server ip. ? Port number ? How can I get the Website to show up? I apologize in as I am sure that this is a simple mistake! But I have read the faq completely. Please help! |

Hello,
When you say "entering the ip address to the DynDNS domain", where are you entering this IP? Do you mean on the DynDNS page? If this is the case, please post the IP that you are attempting to enter that produces the "ip is invalid" error. It may be the case that you are trying to enter the private, NAT'd IP of the box you have NAWS running on, while DynDNS expects your public, Internet accessible IP.
Let us know...
Thanks.

| You were right dyndns was the reason it would not except the whole ip address plus the port. Web hopping was the solution. THANK YOU ! |

I run a nifty program to keep my dyndns updated in case my IP changes (which it does every few weeks or so).

Very small and low impact on resources. I use it on my webserver and that thing is ancient (1998 or so). |
