Complicated Directory Structure

I have 4 hard drives in my fileserver. They all have a corresponding drive letter, but i have them all mapped to "C:\Disks\" as well. So for instance...

C:\Disks\Storage = S:\

etc etc

I have C:\Disks\ as my root directory for the webserver. This way i have access to all the hard drives on my system since they are mapped to directories inside of C:\Disks\

Well this works well and good, and when i connect, it shows all 4 of my hard drives...

Storage
Multimedia
Software
Images

Whenever i click on one, it takes me to that drive as if it were a normal directory.......except that there is no "../" to move back up a directory to see all 4 drives. So to go back to root directory, i have to manually change the address in the address bar.... for instance


root is

mywebsite.myhost.com

When i click one of the 4 drives, for instance "images" it takes me to

mywebsite.myhost.com/images/

Since there is no back button (presumably because it's a drive, mapped to another directory, which is my webserver's root directory) i have to manually type mywebsite.myhost.com into the address bar to get back to root.

Any ways to fix this little inconvience?

hate to say this but that config would even confuse MS's iiS server.
Just simplify your scheme.here is a example of how i do it.

G:\ = small 5gb partition = my Main site. this has main page and index.htm

H:\ = 100gb rock collection, 26000 files ,indexed and updated by NAWS.
I:\ = 50gb assorted collection , same as above.
J:\ =50 gb classical collection , same as above.

K:\
L:\ both of these are movie drives w/aliases of Kmovie/Amovie,indexed and updated by NAWS.

And here is something you might find useful ... my books /files are
Virtual cd's on M:\ , N:\ , O:\ = aliased to Zip,pdf1 ,pdf2 (110,000 files)
running off Images(single files) on ONE hard drive using fantom cd.(Make a DVD of Files
for backup,create a image of that disk,mount it as a virtual CD drive..,
totally hackproof and VERY FAST.)

Partition your drives,simplify your paths..i.e root only,collect away.
By the way , I have used NAWS for 1year,absolute satisfaction,served 100's of TB's to 5 stations, 0 errors.

I'm definently sold on NAWS just for the ability to easily customise the file index pages...... Everything else is bonus to me.

As for my problem..........it seems easier to just type it in the address bar than go thru all that, lol.

There is a solution, though a bit weird and with a possibility of causing problems with certain setups...

Since you can put HTML in the "Server name" field at the lower-right of the main program dialog, you can have a relative 'back' link perhaps under the server name part (at the top of the file listings).

Example text to enter as the server name:

Your_Server_Name_Here<BR><A HREF="../">Up one level</A>

Nicely done, now that i can do. I'll just have it point to my web page's address so that will always take someone back to the root of my webpage.
