Drosophila (Sophophora) melanogaster or another species with a similar body size.
A sufficiently powerful computer. See below for system requirements.
One USB 2.0 or higher data port with full power output capabilities. USB 3.0 ports (usually denoted by having a blue tone) are recommended since they generally can supply more power.
Compatible analysis software, such as ReadySense.
Some models require a rechargeable 9V battery. Note: 7.2V will not work. The battery must provide 8.4 or more volts.
ReadySense system requirements:
A computer running Microsoft Windows XP (SP3) or higher, 32 or 64-bit.
A CPU with a minimum rating of 2300 (based on the benchmarks at www.cpubenchmark.net). A rating of 5000 or higher is recommended for optimal performance while using ReadySense. Basically, a minimum of AMD Phenom II Quad Core or Intel Core i5 is required to run ReadySense correctly. Although the software will run on a slower system, the tracking may be unusable, and the user interface may be unresponsive. Strong CPU power is critical for properly using ReadySense.
At least 380MB of freely available RAM. Depending on the operating system used, this could translate to a minimum system RAM of between 512 MB (on Windows XP 32-bit) and 4 GB (on Windows 8.1 64-bit).
Microsoft .NET Framework version 4.0 or higher. This framework is already installed on most newer Windows machines.
Microsoft Silverlight version 5.0 or higher. You may need to install this framework to run ReadySense.
